This seminar provides an overview of the planning appeal process (with a particular focus on public inquiries) and will cover:

  • Reasons for refusal: when they justifiable and when they are not.
  • The types of appeal: written representations, informal hearings and public inquiries
  • Preparation of appeal documentation including statements of case and proofs of evidence
  • Public Inquiries: Examination in Chief, Cross-Examination and Re-examination. Inquiry tactics. Giving evidence as a witness. Principles of advocacy.
  • Legal Submissions
  • Site Visits
  • Costs applications: when they are justifiable and how to respond to them
