Target Audience

The course is aimed at those clerking independent review panels, solicitors advising on school exclusions, Head teachers, school governors, Academies, local authority officers and members of the independent review panel.

A comprehensive update on the latest developments in school exclusions law.

Focus will be on the school exclusions guidance due out September 2017 and practical tips for independent review panels.

How to avoid legal challenges including judicial reviews, or complaints of maladministration to the Local Government Ombudsman or to the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

The course is particularly important given the requirements for Independent Review Panel members to receive training.

The course will cover:

  • What now for exclusion review panels
  • DfE guidance on school discipline and pupil-behaviour policies
  • Are your Head Teachers and Governors fully aware of their statutory duties with regard to policies and exclusions?

  • Are the Clerks of Governing bodies and IRPs trained and aware of their role and responsibilities?
  • The role of the SEN expert?
  • The financial payment?
  • Practice and Procedure?

  • Natural Justice
  • Have you got your procedures right to avoid extensive costs?
  • The Human Rights Act as it impacts on exclusions?
  • The Equality Act as it impacts on exclusions?
