Target Audience

This course is suitable for those who are new to prosecutions or within their first, second or third years of practice.



This course will cover, in detail, the following areas:

  • Code of Practice for prosecutions
  • Checking authorisations and reviewing evidence
  • Drafting Information
  • Transforming a weak case into a successful prosecution
  • Preparation for a hearing
  • Objecting, handling and dealing with defence applications
  • Obligations of the defence advocate

The course will help delegates:

  • Feel confident with procedural issues
  • Understand the paperwork and the importance of preparation
  • Tackle weak cases
  • Deal effectively with the defence
  • Fulfil their responsibilities with aplomb
  • See the case from beginning to end

The course has been presented and developed by experienced trainers and practitioners, Richard Winter and Jack Henriques, over a period of 20 years. During this time the knowledge and case law that has been acquired at busy Local Authorities has been introduced into the course material to produce a detailed blue print of the prosecution process. Both presenters still practice as managers for Local Authorities and have co-authored 'Local Authority Prosecutions and Investigations' which has been published in two editions.
