2019 has seen mass protests against climate change, from the Extinction Rebellion demonstrations in London to worldwide school climate strikes. In May 2019, Parliament declared a ‘climate change emergency’, and over 170 local authorities have now declared their own climate emergency, pledging to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Low carbon technology and clean energy contribute almost £45 billion to the UK’s economy, and half a million people are already employed in the low carbon sector across the country. Local authorities are increasingly expected to commit to a low carbon agenda, and there is a huge amount that councils can do to drive and influence action through service delivery. From energy to planning, housing to transport, sustainability must be at the top of the agenda for lawyers at the inception of any new project.

With speakers from private practice and in-house legal teams, this conference will provide delegates with the opportunity to share insights into practice and policy on climate change. Attendees will have the chance to hear from leading experts across the sector and learn from case study examples demonstrating best practice and innovative solutions to this huge challenge.
