LLG’s annual Monitoring Officers Conference is a not to be missed event for all Officers, Deputy Monitoring Officers and Democratic Services Officers dealing with member issues. Held online for the first time this year, the Conference will feature a series of engaging webinar presentations from leading speakers, Q&A sessions, and a virtual round table. Whilst the event will be held across one day, all sessions will be recorded and made available to download after the event, providing you the opportunity either to engage for the whole day or to attend selected sessions on the day and then catch up later in the week or in your own time.

The packed Conference programme, chaired by Helen Lynch, Head of Legal and Democratic Services at Durham County Council, will give attendees all the essential tools and key updates to carry out their roles, as well as offering insights into the latest policy initiatives and thinking around leadership, good governance and ethical standards.

We are delighted to welcome Charlie Adan, Interim Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, as our keynote speaker, who will give us her thoughts and reflections on the current challenges and opportunities for monitoring officers. Abigail Gallop, Senior Policy Officer at the LGA will give detailed information about their programme to promote civility in public life, and Paul Hoey from Hoey Ainscough will provide the latest update on the review of the member Code of Conduct.

Jacqui McKinley from the Centre for Public Scrutiny will be providing an insight into good governance and the importance of effective scrutiny, whilst David Kitson and Sarah Lamont from Bevan Brittan will offer some essential tips on the dos and don’ts of using social media. The conference programme also includes the latest on procurement post Brexit and a session on key employment issues relevant to Monitoring Officers and Deputy MOs. The final session of the day will be a round table facilitated by our Chair, Helen Lynch, LLG CEO Deborah Evans, and some of our guest speakers, to provide attendees the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, and discuss the key issues of the day.

The Conference will be held online via GoToWebinar and GoToMeeting, and attendees will receive login details once they have registered for the event. Attendees are free to attend each of the sessions throughout the day or to choose to attend a selection, and all sessions will be recorded and made available to registered attendees following the event.
