Please note this course will run across two mornings (26th & 28th of April), providing 4 hours’ training.

Keeping up to date with the rapidly changing face of social landlord and tenant law can be challenging for the busy local authority or housing association practitioner. Yet it is vital to understand new developments as they arise, and how they will affect your practice.

The course will be delivered across two mornings, both consisting of two one-hour interactive sessions. Delivered by well-known and respected housing expert, Emily Gasson, the course will guide you through the latest developments and highlight the potential pitfalls in legislation and challenges uncovered by recent cases which you need to know.

The course will provide the opportunity for attendees to engage with the speaker and with each other, share experience, ask questions, and participate in discussion. You will leave the course equipped with knowledge and understanding about the latest changes in legislation, and related rulings, and how they are playing out in practice – giving you greater confidence in your daily work.

This course will cover the latest developments of note in social landlord, tenant and leasehold law and practice, including recent cases. It will:

  • Look at recent housing management cases including anti-social behaviour, succession and possession
  • Provide an update on rent arrears
  • Explain the impact of the latest cases on the public sector equality duty and the Equality Act.
  • Provide an update on disrepair
  • Explore where cases are going on succession and service of notices on death of a tenant.
  • Explore flexible tenancies: when and how they be terminated in light of recent cases.
  • Consider the implications of latest water charges case.
  • Discuss the challenges of possession under Covid-19.
